SPRING SUBSCRIPTION TOOLKIT

ABOUT

The winter subscription runs Tuesdays, February 25 - April 15. Our subscriptions rely on the availability of produce from area growers that we work with -- these folks are highlighted in each newsletter.  Our goal is to give you a variety of inspired, vegetarian soups to eat as is, or dressed up through the serving suggestions listed in each week’s email.  We slightly under-salt, so that you can adjust the level to your preference and note any common allergens.  Soups come to you fresh and ready to eat.  They have the best flavor if consumed by the Saturday following each Tuesday, or can be frozen to enjoy at a later date.

PICKING UP YOUR ORDER

Subscribers must pick up their orders within the allotted time frame noted below.  It’s up to your subscription host (the person who lives at your pick-up spot and generously shares their space) to decide what happens to soup and/or bread if you don't pick by Tuesday night. Please be respectful of your host’s time and space and do your best to be on time.  It might be okay to pick up 30 minutes late, or the next morning, but there’s no guarantee.   Do not ring the doorbell at your pick-up location, as everything you need is in or beside the refrigerators.

A roster with each subscriber’s last name and order is posted weekly at each pick-up location.  Quarts of soup are labeled with last names. **Please make sure to only take containers labeled with your last name.  Loaves of bread will not be individually labeled.  Please refer to the posted roster to confirm your order, as not everyone has ordered bread.

GOING OUT OF TOWN?

We will hold your order at your request and give you a double portion of soup and/or bread on another date.  (This is two quarts of the same soup, rather than soup from the week you’re away that is frozen and delivered later).   Please give us at least 5 days notice to either hold your order or request your double portion.   You must specifically indicate which date you would like your double portion on – this does not automatically happen the week following the date you’ve requested as absent.

Alternatively, you are welcome to gift your subscription to a friend, or we can donate your subscription to Durham Community Fridge, a network of food pantries and community refrigerators in Durham that are open 24/7/365. Please let us know your preference.

ALLERGIES

All of our soups are vegetarian.  If you have a food allergy that we should know about, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate.  This sometimes means skipping a week and doubling up on another date.  We’ll be sure to give you a heads up if this pertains to you.

CONTAINERS

We use BPA-free, USA-made, #5 plastic containers.  Subscribers are encouraged to return clean, used containers back to us for reuse (please remove the label).  Bring one or a stack when you pick-up your soup each week, dropping them in the refrigerator for us to collect.  Did you know that we are proudly certified plastic neutral

WEEKLY NEWSLETTER

We send out a weekly newsletter on Tuesday mornings about the soup and bread for the week.  Please add hi@shortwintersoups.com to your email contacts (here's how). Otherwise, our emails might go to your spam/promotions folder. We don't want you to miss any important information!

SNEAK PEAK

We do not publish a menu for the 8-week subscription ahead of time.  Everyone gets our weekly newsletter on Tuesday mornings, but if you like to plan ahead of time, we send out a 1-line email on Saturdays with the name of the soup we'll be making for the following Tuesday delivery.  Reach out if you’d like to get that Saturday “sneak peak” email.  This is available by request only, so you will not automatically be added unless you’re already on the list from the most recent subscription, in which case, we’ll carry over your name and you do not need to re-request your email to be added.

QUESTIONS/COMMENTS
